Group entry: 6 animals
JM took babies for renesting in a known AMKE box that happened to have no viable
eggs this year. Last baby placed inside box ~1:50pm. 3:06pm- male AMKE entered nest
box and appeared to drop a large prey item into nest. Within an hour, female AMKE
entered nest box and began feeding nestlings

S: All babies sleeping, when disturbed they all opened eyes and started food calling. Normal feces and urates in nest.

O: BAR, warm to the touch. Skin over abdomen slightly wrinkled. No live ectoparasites seen on bird.
Fluids: 2.5 cc LRS SQ

A: Apparently healthy nestling, hydration status improved from last night.

P: JSM to take and try to wild foster with known AMKE nest in afternoon.

S: 3/6 food calling and alert when opening incubator door. Other three later became
alert once started feeding.

O: HF 29 grams of finely chopped rat and venison. 25242 fell asleep only after a
couple pieces. Other birds followed in suit once full.

S: All 6 babies piled in group in transport box and making chirping noises. Nibling at fingers and vocalizing for exam. Asleep in nest bowl when went back to feed. Woke up when heard incubator door open and started begging for food. Ate eagerly and then fell asleep once full.

O: Performed intake exam and placed color band.

Neurologic: NSF
Head/mouth/beak: MM dry
Ears: NSF
Eyes: Did not perform fundic.
Wings: NSF
Legs: NSF
Feet: NSF
Body: Scabbing in ectoparasite bitten areas
Feather condition: Completely downy still
Ectoparasites: Lice? in both axial areas. Didn't look like regular feather lice and were much faster than normal. Had distended abdomens full of blood.
Initial treatment: Gave 2.5cc LRS SQ. Wiped with Adams. Placed in nest bowl in 100 degree incubator with siblings. HF while wearing camo until full. 52g rat, venison eaten between 6 babies.


A: Dehydrated and covered in own poop from being in bucket for several hours before being transferred to our transporter. Otherwise appears in good health.

P: See if Jeff has any AMKE nest boxes that all or some of babies could be wild fostered into. Otherwise, foster with Lee once fecal is negative. HF until full TID, wear camo. Weigh daily. Vet check tomorrow. Collect fecal tomorrow.
